Psychotherapy:
My belief is that the therapeutic process is best developed as a collaborative effort. To allow for a trusting relationship, I create a warm, welcoming space for you to begin your journey towards well-being. You will be asked some questions by me that will allow assessment of your physical, mental and emotional state. I will also ask that you share some of your life experience. The telling of your story can be done not only by speaking about it, but, if you desire, also through creative, artistic methods.
Once I have clear picture of your past history and present situation, we can focus on behaviors and circumstances that have previously and/or are currently promoting well-being. We will also examine any areas of your life that do not appear to be serving your best interests. Any treatment plans that I suggest might include basic 'talk therapy', expressive methods such as journaling, artistic methods such as collage or painting, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps you reframe your thinking to promote positive behavioral patterns, or a combination of various approaches. In some cases, I might offer referrals to other appropriate healthcare professionals.
For those desiring group support, I frequently offer groups for those with depression, newcomers to Seattle, women of color, Latinas, sexual abuse victims, and adolescent females.
To adequately accommodate your needs, I allow approximately 50 minutes per session. Your initial appointment might be longer in order for me to include appropriate assessment.
At any point, your input is encouraged and valued. This is your healing journey, and I am here to assist you along this very important path.
I offer a free 30-minute consultation.
